What Does a DevOps Manager Do?

As a DevOps Manager, Jessica Fritsch often finds herself educating people about what she does and why she does it whenever she joins a new team or organization. She also finds engineers have lots of questions about management and if they really want to go down that path in their career. This session will address both of these problems - educating people about what a DevOps Manager's job is like, so that current DevOps Managers and engineers looking to get into management have a answer to the question, "What does a DevOps Manager do?" Highlights from this session will include a day in the life of a DevOps Manager, why be a DevOps Manager? Why not? And you might be a good DevOps Manager if.. you prefer fostering people growth over technologies, you can envision what the future of your department should look like & how to get there, you enjoy taking ownership of your own and your team's success, and job KSAOs to be successful.

Jessica Fritsch has over 16 years of experience in IT and development, and 12 years of experience in management across smaller mom and pop software companies, global corporate conglomerates, and most recently a start up. She has both her Microsoft DevOps Engineer Expert certification and the Certified ScrumMaster title. She enjoys playing with new technologies for fun and can hop into the trenches to deploy Terraform, Helm charts, and Kube clusters. However, Jessica finds her biggest impact comes from forming and leading successful DevOps teams. She has presented multiple times at company conferences to educate Development and IT teams on what DevOps is.
