Act like an Engineer, Think like a Designer

Most careers require years of training to be successful. Doctors, lawyers, engineers, and artists all spend many years training to become great at what they do. But what happens when the rules change and what worked in the past is no longer enough for the new challenges you face? That’s exactly what happened to Chemia Davis, an engineer and project management professional, when she entered the world of innovation and design thinking. Suddenly, all of the things she had worked so hard to avoid in the early part of her career—risk, mistakes, and failure—were exactly the things she needed to embrace in order to become a creative innovator. Chemia will share how she learned to operate in a world where perfection is a bad word and failure is celebrated. You will learn how to start thinking like a designer while still leveraging the skills that come along with more prescriptive careers such as engineering. If you have ever felt out of place in the fast-paced world of innovation, this talk is for you.
