A Manual Testers Performance Review Process

Manual testing is a role that is often misunderstood which leads to difficulty in providing fair, unbiased, meaningful, and informative performance reviews. This talk will share a system for manual tester performance reviews that has been created by manual testers, for manual testers. It is a system that is designed to empower, support, and encourage manual testers to grow, learn, and feel like they have a meaningful career. Our team worked together to build a framework that allowed for a granular assessment of a variety of testing related skills, but one that could still be easily fit within our companies internal review process. The framework results in consistently formatted reviews which helps reduce the time it takes to calibrate performance across the team.

He has 20 years of experience in the QA industry where he has tested a variety of software including container ship load planning and logistics, video games, 3D modeling and animation, and currently web based diagramming and desktop publishing. When not testing, Craig can be found drinking impossibly hot tea, playing and designing role-playing, card, and board games, and writing fiction—likely in that order.
