Software engineering has arguably been one of mankind’s greatest advancements. We use it to solve real-world problems, improve effectiveness and efficiency in all industries, and of course generate profit. Ultimately, innovation is dependent on the number of tests an organization can run; we need to develop confidence in the quality of these tests. In most disciplines, practitioners have standards to meet, and failure to adhere can have severe consequences. For example, physicians rely on a standard of care, and electrical engineers rely on specific IEEE standards when designing systems. However, quality engineering seems to lack this discipline, along with the tooling to make things easier. We now have cloud, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps platforms. So, what’s stopping us when it comes to quality? Is it our lack of confidence to release on demand? Parag Doshi from Tricentis will share his perspective as an engineer and executive on how our industry is at the precipice of quality engineering, making the way we deliver software more scalable, dynamic, and reliable.
