iOS and Swift Quick Start: The Fundamental Pillars of iOS Development

If you are an experienced developer who wants to get up and running on iOS development, join James Dempsey for this hands-on workshop focusing on the fundamentals. You’ll build two iOS apps while learning about the core tools, frameworks, and concepts you need to start building iPhone and iPad apps of your own. In the first part of the day James introduces the suite of freely-available Apple developer tools, focusing on Xcode 7. While learning the tools, you will build a simple app that teaches you techniques for creating user interfaces and connecting them to code. We’ll cover Swift fundamentals needed to get up and running with iOS development, including strings, numbers, dictionaries, arrays, classes, protocols, and optionals. The second part of the day builds on your knowledge as you create a master-detail application. Each part is built in isolation, including building out a table view, a central view in many iOS apps. We will take a look at view controllers and explore how a user navigates by transitioning from scene to scene. By the end of the day, you’ll be ready to start building iOS apps of your own.

Laptop Required: To participate fully in this session, you should bring a Mac laptop with the most recent version of Xcode 7 already installed.
