The Hammer, the Carrot & the Olive Branch: Ways Security Makes Wins... And Friends with Devs

Add to calendar

DevSecOps can be a beacon of hope. Rather than engaging in seemingly futile battles, there are paths to achieving unified wins for devs, ops, compliance—and security. But different situations call for different tools—both technical and social. Join Julie Tsai as she provides realistic examples of things that may have (or not) worked. Mileage may vary.

Julie Tsai

Julie Tsai is an Infosec leader and DevSecOps specialist who's had senior leadership roles with Walmart eCommerce and Box, as well as heading up security (and/or infrastructure) for several startups. She has 21 years experience in Silicon Valley technology companies ranging from seven-person startups to Fortune 1. She spent 15 of those years hands-on in the technology full stack: network, sys admin, SRE, deployment, developer. After that, she returned to focus on the human part of the org stack. She graduated from Stanford and is passionate about security, civil liberties, and bettering society through technology (and vice versa). Growing up, she was a classically trained musician, h.s. mathlete and debater, and an avid writer. Nowadays outside of work, she spends time with her family and friends, checking out the occasional graphic novel.
