Robots + Humans: Rise of the Tester

Testers and test tooling working together can be much more successful than either of them working independently. Both humans and automation have strengths to be taken into consideration when drafting quality strategies and test planning. As an organization evolves, the quality needs should be reevaluated with each step. This session will discuss where humans are still strongest in the software testing discipline, and contrast that with where test tools are most valuable. Various testing tools will be included in the comparison, with a heavy focus on test automation. That information will then be leveraged in crafting a quality strategy. It will be critical to have a shared understanding of terms, goals, strengths, and weaknesses. Vital to building out exceptional testing processes will be determining how and what to measure. The session will close with a Lessons Learned section.

Atlassian (Trello)

Kate Conway has always asked a lot of questions. As a UNIX/Linux system administrator, those questions were mainly about OSes, backups, networking, and who unplugged that power cord. Eventually, those answers steered Kate’s career into software testing where she has been able to ask more exciting questions. Most recently, Kate is excited to be managing a team of gifted testers striving to keep the quality bar high (and our users delighted). Kate has an undergraduate degree from Merrimack College in Philosophy and a Master of Science In Information Technology degree from Bentley University. She was also certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI). In previous lives, she has also been a Product Manager.
