Wait, You Can Test That? The Art of Testing Art and the Science of Testing Fun

“You just can’t test that!” If you’ve spent any time in software development, you’ve probably heard some variation of that phrase. You may have even fallen into the trap of thinking it yourself. But is the idea that some things just can’t be tested actually true? Hailing from the chaotic world of video games development, Jane Jeffers believes the answer to that is an emphatic “No!” Join her as she shares different ways Riot Games has approached quality assurance on the popular multiplayer online game League of Legends, from the art of testing art to the science of testing fun. Jane describes modifying various quality assurance methodologies, like requirements management, test planning, risk assessments, and usability testing, for some of the more “can’t test” elements of an always-online, always-updating video game played by millions of people worldwide. You’ll learn about how the classic QA craft can be adapted to test anything with some creative rethinking and a lot of the most important tool in the QA professional’s toolkit: curiosity.
