Software Manager’s Lab

Software Manager’s Lab - Wednesday, November 13, 2013

The three most important skills for all software managers are (1) guiding, (2) coaching, and (3) leading. Because the best management practices often happen one-on-one and behind closed doors, it is difficult to observe and learn how to do these three skills well. How would you like to practice hands-on management in a safe environment with an expert coach? The Management Lab is the place. We'll practice in a group-coaching environment and learn from one another. Come and join us—you won’t be disappointed.

10:15am–11:00am • Practice one-on-ones with your peers in a safe setting

A one-on-one is a structured conversation that allows a manager and an employee to explain to each other what is going on—without micromanagement on either side.

11:00am–11:45am • Learn a peer-to-peer feedback model and try it out in real time

We all need feedback. This feedback model is how adults effectively provide feedback to each other.

2:15pm–3:00pm • Implement quick and easy guide to coaching for managers and leaders with corresponding practice

Most people think of sports teams or teaching as a coaching model. But that might not be the most effective coaching model for you in your organization. Learn the many other options you have.

3:00pm–3:45pm • Get an introduction to project portfolio management

Find new ways to end the multitasking madness. We’ll discuss the principles and practice in small groups.
