Hands-on HELM: Templating Your Way to a Brighter Future

New

With the introduction of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and the advancements of software architecture towards the use of microservices and containerized applications, open-source container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes have become extremely popular for automating software deployments. While Kubernetes has helped solve the complexities of container orchestration it has also introduced new complexities dealing with deploying and managing applications. Using an open-source tool like Helm will help reduce the complexities of application deployment, enabling teams to define, install, and upgrade applications via reusable deployment templates. This hands-on workshop will help attendees develop a foundational understanding of Helm, while engaging them in using Helm to deploy a sample application. The workshop will cover an introduction to the building blocks leading up to and including Helm. Attendees will learn to search, discover, download, and install existing Helm charts as well as upgrade, customize, rollback, and remove Helm releases. This workshop will focus on using best practices, patterns, and recommendations for creating and publishing custom Helm charts. This workshop is appropriate for software developers, test engineers, and DevOps engineers.

NOTE: Attendees need to bring their laptop and should have a technical background. No prior knowledge of Helm is assumed
