Continuous Delivery in Practice: A Hands-On DevOps Workshop

What is continuous deployment? How does it differ from continuous integration and continuous delivery? Every company thinks they want CI/CD, but few teams have experience in knowing what that means and how to build it out. Join Janna and Melissa as they walk through building your own build pipeline using GitHub Actions, Docker, and Azure to continuously deploy to production. They will walk you through some of the basics of Git, Docker, and YAML to create build pipelines that run test automation and deploy an application. These tools and techniques will help reduce debugging differences between your development environment and a production server. Creating your own pipeline will allow you to optimize and debug your test automation without disrupting your team’s build pipeline. Learn from practical, real-world examples about how testing practices and pipelines can be streamlined to take advantage of the ad-hoc world of containerization. Come away with a real DevOps build, test, and deployment plan that can reduce your cycle times by an order of magnitude while increasing overall product quality.

Melissa Benua has worked in nearly every software development role—dev, test, DevOps, and program management—at companies big and small and somewhere in-between. She's created and run high availability, high-quality services for PlayFab, Bing, Cortana, and Xbox One, and now for mParticle's enormous data platform. Melissa discovered her love of massively-scaled systems while growing the Bing backend, where she honed the art of keeping highly-available complex systems up while undergoing significant code churn. Now an engineering director with mParticle, she’s passionate not only about maximizing efficiency both in her product code and in her developer tools but also about sharing best practices among colleagues and the tech world at large.
