Product Backlog Refinement: Tell the whole story, not just the User Story

New

Going Agile implies a lot of change. It’s all about breaking work down into small chunks, radical collaboration, and freedom to deliver through self-organizing teams. So, what about Requirements? Teams still need to have a backlog of requirements to work from. But how do you evolve from long, detailed specifications to lightweight, incomplete Product Backlog Items? How do you know when you have enough to get the development team started, but not too much so you don’t create the solution? With Agile Requirements, we paint the broad strokes, focus on only documentation that adds value, and learn how to leverage the ‘just in time’ concept to flesh out acceptance criteria. This session focuses on getting to Ready, the bridge between discovery and development.

In this hands-on tutorial, you will learn how to conquer the chaos of Product Backlog management. You will explore the 7 Product Dimension, learn to partner with UX, business and tech; and learn basic visual modeling techniques for Agile requirements and prioritization. Along the way, you will learn WHAT requirements are applied WHEN in the Agile planning lifecycle. This session is for anyone who is involved in creating requirements for agile teams, managing the backlog, or supporting those who do. Find out how to tell the whole story, not just the User Story.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Apply the 7 Product Dimensions
  • Evaluate and select options based on value
  • Use a Product Discovery board to engineer collaboration & shared understanding
