Usability vs. Security: Having Your Cake and Eating It Too

In today’s rapidly changing marketplace, the usability of software is paramount to its adoption and success. However, we also recognize the need for solutions to have resiliency and security. How do you successfully navigate the tradeoffs between usability and security? Simple… you don’t! Instead of choosing one or the other, reject the false tradeoff and instead find ways to embrace both security and usability in your DevSecOps processes. Join Peter Hesse as he discusses strategies for getting security and user experience teams to work closely together, enabling the creation of better solutions. Learn how to effectively create DevSecOps solutions that are usable AND secure. Take home tips and ideas for how to improve the usability of your DevSecOps solutions.

For over two decades, Peter Hesse has leveraged his passion for technology and experience in security to develop successful solutions to interesting problems. From an exciting start developing the reference implementation of a standards-based certification authority for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), to overcoming obstacles and successfully demonstrating the system that formed the basis of the Federal PKI, Peter has built his reputation tackling complex challenges and explaining them to others. Peter founded and ran the successful information security consulting firm Gemini Security Solutions for over a dozen years. Today as 10Pearls Executive Vice President and Chief Security Officer, he now focuses on avoiding the common break/fix mentality around security, and instead finding ways to architect and build security into systems and products.
