Culture-Shaping: An Agile Leadership Imperative

It’s largely a chicken & egg problem. Where does organizational culture come from? Does it grow organically from the bottom-up? Is it tied to organizational structure? Is it strongly tied to the culture that leaders are setting? While it comes from all of the above and more, Bob Galen asserts (and has observed in his coaching) that leaders play the most important role in culture-setting. But he doesn’t believe they really understand that responsibility, what it entails, and tactics for actively setting the culture. Thus, this workshop. We’ll start by exploring the dynamics of leadership culture setting by going through a simple assessment exercise to determine your individual culture-setting maturity level. Next, we’ll focus on sharing a set of heuristics (thinking models) that describe effective culture-setting practices. Bob refers to them as your Walking Your Agile Leadership Talk (WYALT) heuristics. And we’ll drill down into the positive leadership behaviors that amplify each heuristic. We’ll wrap up the talk by giving everyone an individual chance to create a personal WYALT improvement plan to close any gaps you found in your personal assessments. But no judgment, we’re all on a journey, right?
