The Reality of Testing
Ross Collard

At STAREAST 2009, a panel of seasoned testers will debate the theme: “The Reality of Testing”. To paraphrase Dickens, some testers and observers believe that this is the best of times. Others believe it is the worst of times. Arguably there is no reality, only our perspectives and perceptions of reality. Before we can understand where we are likely to be going, or where we want to be going, it helps to have a realistic sense of where we are today. In this panel discussion, we will take an opinionated tour of today's thinking and practices in software, testing, and quality. The panelists will bring a variety of perspectives, and the discussion will be shaped by the results of a survey conducted beforehand. We would love to have your feedback included, so please take a moment to take the survey.

If you have any questions feel free to email Ross Collard at [email protected].

Bonus Session for Wednesday, May 6, 2009 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
The Agile Testing Movement:  Are Today’s Test Automation Tools Still Relevant?
An Interactive Panel Discussion Brought to you by Borland

As software projects transition to Agile from traditional, waterfall development, there are many QA professionals that have built their careers on commercial test tools. Some testers have found limitations to using test management, functional, and performance testing tools on Agile teams.  Others have noticed that within Agile there is still a need for these solutions in order to meet the demands of more advanced, complex software projects.  Which camp do you fall into?  What challenges are you wrestling with as you try to merge traditional tools into an Agile environment?

Learn more about Scott Barber, Janet Gregory, Joachim Herschmann, Doron Reuveni

Join our accomplished panel of experts as they examine all angles of the Agile Testing movement and provide advice on:

• Test Management in Agile – how this differs from traditional test management?
• Agile Performance Testing Challenges – why more teams don’t do it?
• Functional and Regression Testing in Agile – what works and what does not?
• The paradigm shift for commercial software vendors – where should they go from here?

Attend and gain perspective on how automation can still play a powerful role in your testing process.  If you are transitioning to Agile, this is a session you don’t want to miss!
